Taiwanese company, AU Optronics(AUO) introduced bi-directional foldable AMOLED display at IDW(International Display Workshoops) 2016 opened in Japan Fukuoka from last December 7th through 9th, which both internal and external displays can be bent 180 degrees.
대만 AU Optronics(AUO)사는 지난 12월 7일부터 9일 일본 후쿠오카에서 열린 IDW(International Display Workshops) 2016에서 내부와 외부 모두 180도로 구부릴 수 있는 bi-directional foldable AMOLED display를 발표하였다.
Kopin, mobile VR and AR wearable technology development company, announced on December 21(local time) that they will enter OLED microdisplay market for mobile VR and AR application. This company’s very first OLED microdisplay is expected to be tested during CES 2017 held next month.
In IDW(International Display Workshops) 2016 held in Fukuoka Japan from December 7~9, LG Display announced on the development trend for OLED TV and latest WOLED device for lighting, and mentioned that the color area of latest WOLED device for OLED TV increased from 114% to 129% compared to sRGB, and 90% to 99% compared to DCI. In the paper, 3 stack structured 55” UHD OLED TV shows 150cd/m2 in full white screen, 500cd/m2 of luminance in peak white screen, and showed that it lowered the power consumption by 20% compared with 2 stack structure.
Mobile VR과 AR, wearable 기술 개발 업체인 Kopin은 현지시간으로 12월 21일, 모바일 VR 및 AR 어플리케이션을 위한 OLED microdisplay 시장에 진입 할 것이라고 발표했다. 이 회사의 첫 번째 OLED microdisplay는 다음 달에 열리는 CES 2017에서 시연 될 예정이다.
LG Display는 지난 12월 7일부터 9일 일본 후쿠오카에서 열린 IDW(International Display Workshops) 2016에서 OLED TV 및 조명용 최신 WOLED 소자의 개발 동향에 대해 발표하며, OLED TV용 최신 WOLED 소자의 색상 영역이 sRGB 대비 114%에서 129%로, DCI 대비 90%에서 99%까지 확대 되었다고 밝혔다.
Solution process OLED는 발광층 재료들을 solvent에 녹인 후 용액화 하여 printing으로 형성한 OLED이다. 일본의 JOLED와 LG Display에서 가장 적극적으로 개발하고 있으며, 중국의 BOE와 CSOT에서도 개발을 진행중이다.

소문만 무성하던 Sony의 2017년 OLED TV 시장 진출이 사실로 밝혀졌다. OLED association의 베리 영(Barry Young) CEO는 포브스에 이와 같은 사실을 전하면서, Sony는 2017년 55인치와 65인치 2개의 OLED TV를 출시할 것이라고 밝혔다.
지난 12월 2일 유비산업리서치 주관으로 서울 여의도 중소기업회관에서 열린 ‘2016 OLED 결산세미나’에서 이충훈 유비산업리서치 대표는 “OLED는 LCD와 대비해서 완벽한 블랙과 빠른 응답속도 등을 앞세워 디스플레이 시장의 패러다임 변화를 주도하고 있다”고 전하며, “LCD 업체들은 기존의 LCD 대비 색재현율 높인 QD-LCD를 내놓고 있지만 OLED도 함께 진화가 이루어지고 있다”고 밝혔다.
Lee Woo-keun, a senior researcher at LG Economic Research Institute, predicted that the year 2017 will be an important year to be able to emphasize the innovation of OLED to consumers, in the seminar for the 2016 OLED evaluation held at the Yeouido Small & Medium Business Center in Seoul, hosted by UbI Research on last December 2.
